Well it depends on the state of charge before that 70 miles drive. If the battery was pretty much flat before you set off, and if that 70 mile drive was a cold day and everything is on full whack, heater, demist, lights, etc..then it won't charge it back up to full.
Just get a good battery, and if you only do short trips, invest in a trickle charger, or if you park the car on the street, charge the battery once a week/fortnight depending if it needs it. See here also: http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...batteries.html

I'm a S40 owner in St Albans. I use a RING battery conditioner / charger about £50 from Halfords . My first battery lasted 8 years. Fitted a Varta battery four years ago and regularly condition the battery in cold spells - takes about 24 hours to recondition flat batteries. Very pleased with the product.

I bring my battery in the house if it gets silly cold (which it is today) and I'm not the using the car for a few days.
Let it thaw out for about 6 hours hours first, then put it on charge to bring it back to full charge. I'll take it off charge but leave it in the house till I need to use the car then take it out and stick it on 10 mins before I set off.
