Clan knows a lot about the car but remains very secretive of his whereabouts and work, probably to stop getting his driveway clogged with xc90's ! ;o)

Thats pretty good price. I have just bought a late 05 XC90 with 73k and am considering getting the timing belt done at next service in March due to a few of the threads I've read on here. I think the low price is probably due to the good accesibility to the timing belt, hence less labour.

Thx for the advice so far , so looks as if general recommendation is:

Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Timing Belt Idler Pulley
& bolts

Also mentioned to change is:
- water pump
- thermostat
- in other threads a second 'serp' belt

what's the score here - are these volvo recomendations or good general practice or just a few specific individual experiences

Definitely worth doing the waterpump and thermostat for peace of mind. Looks easily accessible too- anyone got the instructions for a DIY job?

Default can you do the job without touching the bolts on the crank?

Is it possible to do the timing belt without touching the crank pulley bolts and nuts? And is it necessary to change them if you do not have to touch them?

On a petrol yes but not a D5 as the belt is wider ...so the pulley has to come off , and you need the new nut and bolts if you disturb them
