I did think about having a go at welding some tube on and adding another plate to strengthen the entire thing. I just don't have the time at the moment to mess. At least this way If it happens again I can go straight back to them. The car will be for sale end of the year so it will probably be fine.

Had the dealer replace the seat frame yesterday. Volvo have offered no goodwill they see it as wear and tear. To my eyes it's poor materials to snap like this. It's not like I have abused the seat.

Thats very odd a poor weld perhaps which left a weak spot . I would have got it welded with a bit of reinforcement if it were mine . It certainly isn't anything i have seen since the 240 when the backrest could crack after 30 years in a hard used car. ( They deleted one piece from the X shape strengthening members )

Pretty interesting failure in my opinion. Seems like a constant twisting force caused the problem but i cannot see the source of that motion. Maybe the mechanism itself jammed or something and the frame was under a constant tension because of the uneven height.
Not the typical snapped in half because of extreme weight story.... |

A very poor design has caused that failure, only half of the tube is supported causing a spiral shear. The supporting plate should support the entire tube.
