A (US) quart is 0.946 litre. My fault for not mentioning the US bit That makes 12 US quarts about 11.5 litres - but we're splitting hairs here! lol

Anyway, welcome to the forum Amsoil!

Default U S Gallons versus Imperial gallons

Sorry to be pedantic, but it is sometimes worth remembering that the U S gallon is the pre-1868 Imperial gallon.

In that year a Weights and Measures overhaul redefined the new ( and current ) Imperial gallon as that volume of water that weighs 10 lbs (pounds) {ask your mum or dad}. The Americans carried on with their slightly smaller gallon to this day

Hence a US gallon is only five sixths of an Imperial gallon, An Imperial gallon is 1.2 U S gallons. It doesn't make much difference in everyday practice, but if ever you begin comparing fuel consumption with an American, bear it in mind.

Decimal currency.
A further gem of entirely useless information that might, just might, win a pub quiz for you one day, is that in the same Act of Parliament a move was made towards decimal currency by the issue of a new coin valued at one tenth of a pound. It was called a florin, and if you look on an old two shilling piece {again ask your mum}you will see that name. Needless to say it took until 1972 for this policy to be fully implemented.

Previous divisions of the pound had included crowns (four to a pound), and half crowns (two shillings and sixpence, eight to a pound), shillings (twelve to a pound), and pennies, ha'pennies, and farthings (240, 480 and 960 to a pound respectively).

Sorry about this. I need to get out more.

If you put fully synthetic in the auto box, does that mean it wont need changing ever again?
