Tem,

Labour for the work done is shown as 2 Hours / £188.

Parts Total £197.79 of which oil accounted for £112.14 (7l @ £17.80 !)

On top of all of that you have VAT of £67.51

Grand Total £453.50.

One of the biggest influences on labour charges is rent. There may not be a huge difference in the wages across the country, light, gas coucil tax etc but rent payable to the landlord will no doubt cause the cost to go up. I'd be interested to know what labour charge you have to pay.

The part of the south I live is not densely populated and East Sussex is per capita the 2nd poorest county in the UK .... the rich can be very rich but the poor can be very poor, think of large seaside towns with no employment, no prospects etc etc

Diesel is £1.239 per litre or it least it was yesterday.

Just noticed on the way home that Diesel (Shell) has now gone down to £1.219 per litre.

With the amount of diesel my XC90 drinks I reckon we are about even at the end of the day .... I pay it in service costs and you pay it in diesel

For the record I use my car just as the maker intended i.e. on the road. The problem is that I live on the Kent / Sussex border and the roads here are shocking. This was confirmed to me by a holiday to the Brecon Beacons last month which reminded me how roads should look / feel instead of being bumpy and covered in 'spray on tarmac & chippings' instead of proper repairs.

Dave.
Thanks Dave.

I'm not sure why my bushes haven't needed replacing yet. London roads are the worst in the country. I guess most of my milage is outside London although I do travel to East Sussex regularly.

My labour costs are about £45 an hour, but I use a Volvo specialist rather than a main dealer.

Question

hi on reading your post you say your road tax is £400 but an o7 xc90 only puts out £224 co's thus only £210 going up to £300 under the new banding ,i would check your v5 to see what it says reg your co's as volvo reduced the emitions on the xc90 to fall under the higher tax brackets, something people should check in the future when buying cars cheers gary

Gary,

This was the 1st thing I checked when the VED reminder arrived. CO2 as identified in the V5 is 239g/km.

I spoke to my Volvo Dealer about this as I had read that Volvo had adjusted the engine specification to fall below the threshold however this only applies to more recent cars. In fact, the goverment website ( http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/ ) shows that the 224g/km figure you quoted only applies to '09 model year cars.

Also, they advised that it is not possible to have the car re-valued as the figure quoted is not for a specific car but a general figure supplied by the manufacturer to the government.

Further information can be found on the DVLA website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...le/DG_10012524

Dave.

thanks for that because ive been looking at the xc90 on autotrader ,when you go to the technical tab on some adverts lots of the 07 cars say the lower bracket but i now reckon that the garages are on a con and printing the lower co level to increase sales.i think the goverment should allow us to reduce co levels and get it retested because if i owned a lorry in the low emition zone i would be allowed to fit devices to reduce my co to comply with the legislation but why not cars anyway all the best gary ps if i lived in london i would have a plane or a train as these are the only modes of transport that are allowed to pollute and get away with it haha.

I think only the Manual (pre 2009) models are in the 224 bracket. The Geartronic ones (pre 2009) are 239 and therefore in the higher band.
I already paid the £400 Road Tax in March this year
