my oil gets changed every 5k which equates to 6 services a year and i dont consider this too much. i use magnatec and change filter at the same time. 175K with no major engine problems, however the timing belt was last changed at 60k! must get round to that.

Well, I've got some 10w40 semi synthetic oil in dads garage ready to give the old girl a service over the Christmas period! I know most have adv fully synthetic on here, but talking to some mechanics etc they have informed me that semi will be more than adequate for the type of driving I do! Plus my cars are over maintained anyway!

It will get serviced every 10k, but checked weekly and whatever she needs she gets...

Thanks for all of the replies, much appreciated!

Hi All,

Newbie to the forum here, just having a look through. Every 10k is more than adequate as is 10w40 semi. Everyone has there own opinion, rituals, procedures whatever you want to call them. Just do whatever it is you and your wallet is comfortable with or failing that do what Volvo say. After all they designed and built the thing. Happy New Year.

For 2 years that I've owned T4 I've serviced it after every 6-7 thousand miles.
I've used Castrol Magnetac GTX and Comma 5W40 full synthetic oil.
My car has 200k miles on clock, so it probably won't make much difference which one to use (and I don't know which would be the best).

I wouldn't use mineral oil in turbocharged car.

Recommended 10-30 semi synthetic in T4 and 2.0t engines but 10-40 semi synthetic fine,i change mine every 5000 miles tops never had a problem on my V40 2.0t,143000 miles runs sweet as a nut.
