Hi thanks for your reply , yeah i cant understand what changed between 2004 and 2005 on what is essentially the same spec engine apart from fords input in which ever way it was , the oil specs for a 2004 car would appear to me that A1 and A3 which are stated in the handbook are superseeded by A5 , i have used castrol magnatec 5w30 A5 for the small top up i have made but was just curious as to whether there was any other specs i was missing , 0w30 to me seems me a little thin for the engine so i may just stick with 5w30 a5 as i have , thanks again

Hi , thanks for your reply , at the time i didnt think to ask what colour the oil was when it came out , thinking about it i am curious now too but a little too late , i think given that it states on the back of the castrol magnatec 5w30 bottle that it meets acea A1 (according to the handbook this is the original requirement ) and also A5 which from what i can work out meets A3 to some extent , i will use this oil , the 0w30 might be a little thin and also i guess this spec was stated for cars that operated in a climate colder than the uk , thanks

I just meant was it nice and treacly or was it just black

in terms of 'was it done recently' as opposed to 'what type was it' (all look the same AFAIK)

OK, now that we've taken care of the oil....it's on to a transmission drain & fill.
