the only reason a 960 will have an inlet manifold leak is because it still has the older PINK inlet gasket and it will 99% always leak around no.1 cylinder, if you look closely at no.1 cylinder flange you can just see the outline of the gasket to see which colour you have fitted
The newer later GREEN inlet manifold gasket should be fitted to stop this common problem as that is why they changed the gasket type. i had this done on my `96 model WD40 or even carb. cleaner shows up an inlet manifold leak superbly as said the revs rise straight away i would not want to pour cold water directly on a hot engine !!!!!!! the noise of it alone would not let you hear the engine properly.

I would have thought all B6304Fs engines would have had the gasket replaced by now , I was changing these all the time back in the late 1990s .
water wont do any harm remember the manifold is cool having fresh air going through it , and you easily hear it being sucked in above the engine noise . But WD 40 is an alternative , if a fire hazzard !

Well i have had a busy weekend and the only thing i managed was to remove the top and note the coil pack numbers.."mb029700-7990"
I removed the wire of each coil one by one again and they all made a difference when re-fitted, bearing in mind the engine had just been started from cold. I looked at the inlet manifold and it has rubber pipe before the head etc. there is not alot of room there below the injector rail. I looked around the air box and could not see any e-c-u's, but it was getting dark.. I did try my tester on the coils and cant get it in due to the insulation on the wires etc. |

on the inlet manifold by the throttle intake down and behind it is a large vacuum tree with a few vacuum hoses coming off it see if it has cracks or corroded and letting in any air?

I have just been and sprayed Carb cleaner near to number 1 injector and she "Reved up" straight away. I did this a few times and every time i did it she reved up. I can not see what colour the inlet gasket is. Where is the bets place to get a gasket and how easy is it to change. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Pete. |

You should get the gasket from your volvo dealer it will be a modified one , also dont forget the 12 clamps for the rubber rings connecting the manifold to the head adapter .

Thanks Clan.
In a previous reply it was suggested a sealent was used to prolong until there is time to fix. I have little time/money lately and if i could prolong this till after Santa has been, it will be great. If so, can anyone recommend a good sealant. Pete. |

This is excellent stuff ,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOCTITE-59...item415dc7c29b But you might have trouble getting to the underside of the manifold without taking it off , then you are almost there for fitting a new gasket . Then you might find it will be blowing at the other end too . so not really cost or time effective to seal . This sealer has really good sticking power as long as you clean off the surface with brake cleaner , and easy to use from the pressurised cartridge .
