Re Clans above comments which are spot on. I have driven plenty of S60 T5's and they are a complete joy. The performance is absolutely terrific and the fuel consumption acceptable given how fast the bloody thing is. That said i bought an S60 D5 185 bhp 6 speed manual and for me it was definitely the right choice. It is more than quick enough in every day driving conditions and the fuel economy is superb. For you there is a dilema because if i was only doing your mileage i would not buy a diesel and particularly a 185 which is fitted with a DPF. Both very good cars but for your needs i would buy a T5. Check the price differential too - nobody really wants the T5 anymore, the market-place has been skewed towards the oil burners!
As Darrly says, watch the later D5 with DPF if you're doing short journeys. |

Thanks for that , yes i have read lots and lots and lots about dpf even the AA are now advising not to buy a diesel if your a town driver, when i bought my s40d priority on my list was get the lastest year a could without the dpf, which i did ,helped by members on this site who told me the 8th letter on the vin code is engine type, mine a 3 for a euro 3, no dpf, i have just been on the phone to guy selling the t5 and going for a test drive tomorrow , |

By the time that you factor in the purchase price saving T5 against D5, the fact that petrol is cheaper than diesel and that you will be able to haggle very very hard on a T5 they make a lot of sense. My D5 185 has so far ( god i hope i havent done it now) never given me the slightest problem with the DPF but the car gets used regularly for good long journies where the regen process can take place properly. I get a regular 45-52mpg depending on journey and it is genuinely quick if pushed but it does not have that brutal grin inducing performance that a T5 has. Darryl

I had the same choice last year and due to my lack of milage opted for the T5.
Never looked back.

I seem to get around 23-26 mpg, which is town driving alittle 70 mph driving and the odd bit of foot to the floor
Mine is a 2004 2.3. Not the newer 2.4. I only do about 100 miles per week so fuel cost are not something I worry about as £80 will see me through a mth.
