Now Fishing, that really is a strange hobby but each to their own I suppose.
I can understand the boredom and sheer stupidity of sitting all day and catching 4" inedible fish from rivers and canals......but each to their own as you say.

But just down the road from us is the sea, and I can tell you that there's nothing like catching fresh, and free, Bass, Skate, Mackerel and Plaice.

Nothing like it at all.

Now that makes perfect sense but NOT where you sit and then throw them back in just to prove that you are smarter than a fish.

No I only catch what I and my wife can eat, and never more. There's always more for another day. Nothing like a freshly caught fish!

Throwing fish back (like the trawlermen have to do) because of the ridiculous 'quota' systems, makes most people's blood boil.

Such fish could easily be given FREE as supply to schools and hospitals rather than doing that. The fishermen can't help what comes up in their nets, and apart from those who abuse the system, and deserve all they get, I think most would rather land them for no profit at all, and see them go this route.

And you don't need to trundle along at 40mph holding up the traffic - I've got the ticket from Highland Constabulary to prove that.
