1, I'm 99% sure the 240's never had the heat sheild - I asume the studs are there for the 7,9 series.
2, Rear bump stops are a common problem and I hope to have poly ones made soon as a perminant solution. 3, reving the engine will let the fuel trims settle. |

Bump stops - I see the hole in the underside of the chassis section, so where does the nut go? Is it supposed to be another of these captive nuts I seem to have such trouble with?

I'll have to try and see for you unless anyone knows, but I'm sure it's a captive nut in the chassis rail.

Yes there is normally a heat sheild covering the manifold and the part is still available. Regards Peter

I've spent part of today under the rear of my 1993 240SE Est and the bump stops are bonded to a bracket through which a bolt passes through each end, fore and aft of the bump stop. Regards Peter

I thought the heat shields were only fitted to turbo cars, i've had 3 non turbo 740's and none of them had got them, the turbo cars also have heatshields on the plug wires.

No, not a trace of a bump stop bracket or any bolts, just a neat hole in the chassis corresponding with the hole in the top of the rubber stop. I can't see any means of bolting anything anywhere, because there is obviously no access to the inside of the chassis section.
All I can think of is aralditing a tapered wooden peg tightly into the chassis hole, then gluing the stop over it with rubbery impact glue. |

To your question regarding how did the emissions drop after reving. It's fairly simple when you rev your car the air mass meter increases the amount of air and fuel accordingly if the emissions are slightly high it is possible you have a lot of unburnt fuel sitting in the baffles of the exhaust a good rev (Not a boy racer special) will clear all this out and give a lower reading because the exhaust has been cleared.

Some (all?) 700 series have bump stops with a muolded rubber section that locates in hole in chassis. Are these the type fitted to your 200 series car?
