Thanks!

Should have added that I haven't managed to get all the oil out of the header tank as yet, but will be buying a Haynes manual to show me how to drain the cooling system and then will be flushing it with Persil until nice and clean

I have exactly the same issue with my 2.0T V40 and am about to change my oil cooler, did you ever get to the bottom of your problem ?
And are you serious about using washing powder to clean out the oil sludge from the cooling system ?

Thanks !

Yes, that was an "old school" trick with older motors not worth much and on a shoestring budget. Teenagers with cheap older cars. I was one at one time!

OMO & Persil worked wonders even for boiling the brake shoes in if the brake cylinder leaked, it did save me a whole lot of money, which i didn`t have.

On our Volvo motors where there is a lot more money to lose on the cost of parts if anything goes wrong i wouldn`t attempt using those strong detergents only on the riveted brake linings but then most have pads.

Another reason also being our motors are 10yrs old and the plastic twist thingy on the bottom of the rad. nearly always snaps so you may need a new rad. to start with which is a thing you are trying to clean!!

You won`t get all the detergent out the system if the old rad. drain plug snaps, so again no point in using.

But then only my opinion...

Ok thanks!
What's a good and reliable degreaser type solution I should be using just a regular water system flush from halfords etc ?
Aside from the flush I also read something about blocked PCV systems perhaps being a cause of oil in the water header tank is this likely on the V40 2.0T ?
