I have Michelin primacy 3 on the front of my 2wd polestarred D4 xc70, 18000 miles and changed at 3mm tread depth, I live on the west coast of Wales and find these tyres fine all year round. Happy with their wear as I'm putting near 200 bhp through them plus I tow a caravan often.
Rears are prirreli zeros that came with the car, but I am not a pirreli fan having had unfortunate experience with them many years ago so once due replacement the rears will be Michelin primacy 3s also. In iffy driving conditions I have a landrover available so don't need 2 x4wd vehicles however I have never been caught out yet with the primacy 3. Paul. |

Any thoughts on the Pirelli Scorpion STR all season tyre? Searching online, they seem to be good value compared to other all season tyres. The only downside is the best prices are available at either National Tyres or Halfords Auto Centre both of which I'm wary of using due to variable reviews. Volvo garage can't come near, nor can my local independent & reliable tyre place.

Out of interest, where are people buying their tyres? I still can't find anywhere that can get near the prices of my local, independent tyre fitter and that includes MyTyres, Black Circles, Camskill etc : People like National Tyres are just bloody hilarious with their prices for 225/50/17s!

Really impressed with these new Nokian weatherproof, starting with 10mm of tread makes all the difference. Arrived in a couple of days from Europe using MyTyres, keep the local National boys happy though as you could get them to fit them for you.

I use local fitters - recommend Pro-fit in Oldham and Malvern Tyres in Gloucester. They will typically be close to or below the online price, and include fitting, valve, balancing etc. I have always found it simpler to use them. Use the places (like those recommended above) which are operating out of industrial units rather than big fancy retail premises (eg krap-fit, ATS, etc).

I finally opted for Hankook Optimo 4S (4 season) tyres mainly because via a contact I got them for 50 quid a corner! The best price I could get elsewhere was £112 each.
It's too soon to comment on their ability but they're a huge improvement over the Autogrip and Fullrun rubbish previously fitted. I'm not a tyre/brand snob but they were truly appalling. With a 4 wheel alignment I notice a huge difference in the way the car drives and the ride quality is massively improved - the old tyres possibly had rubbish sidewalls: hard to tell if they were too soft or too hard. Whichever way I look at it, the new ones help soak up bumps better. New front shocks are on the agenda: I recently did the rears myself which are easy as the shock is separate from the spring. For the front, I'd rather pay the £120 labour and be done with the messing around.

Four Michelin Cross Climates on my 2013 V70. Quieter than OEM Contisports. Definitely better on damp roads with the temperature a little above freezing. Seem fine in Summer. Too early to say about wear.
Had to go from W to V rating, & my insurer told me this didn't affect premium. |

I have several friends/former colleagues that went for the Optimo 4S when they first came out a few years ago, and they all raved about them, especially in the winters around here (pennines). I certainly think they're a strong choice - one of the first of the new generation of decent all-season tyres.
