There is about 4-5mm of vertical movement both front corners which feels slightly damped ie, it doesn't rattle. There is about 2-3 mm at the rear corners that is more free and produces a rattling noise. I always thought it was the sliding cover that rattled when it was in the open position. Another mystery solved although I'm not sure I am going to mess with it as I rarely open it in the UK climate! Oh, nearly forgot 2001 v70.

I use my sunroof a lot. Being a 'biker' I often have it on tilt to get fresh air in the car and often open it on long journeys.....it seems a shame not to use it. I rarely pull the blind as I like the feeling of light airiness it gives.

Thumbs up Look Jamena

Hey Jamena, found this on the inter-web thingy whilst searching, you will have to join the forum to see the pictures (it's the same as joining this forum) but it appears to be the answer:

http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-c...-rattle-37621/

where mine is loose there is a bolt, so I am fairly sure it will need to be tightened, unfortunately I wont have the car until Saturday, so if you try this first let me know how it goes

Glad you got it sorted mate, I must say, sad as it is, I have been driving today with the sunroof blind back and a big smile on my face

Nothing feels as good as when you fix something yourself!

but no. Thanks for an excellent post but it's not fixed mine. I tightened the screws (they were not really loose anyway), tried raising and lowering the position of the roof when shut but I still have the rattle. There seems to be some play in the connection between the retaining arms that the rearmost bolts attach to (just visible in Aveton's 4th and 5th photos) or another part of the mechanism in that area and that's what is causing the rattle. So, it's back to the drawing board or ignore it as I have done for the last 80000 miles
