Hi Andy, Dave,
The attached link will answer all of your questions.... http://www.vlvworld.com/indexframe.h...Production.htm Breakdown is as follows for your particular car's product plates: 18335HE 18 - Model Type -1800 3 - Engine Type - B18B twin carbs 3 - Export Model 5 - Gearbox Type - M41 or M410+overdrive H - Right Hand Drive E - Model Year - 1965 You then add your individual chassis number to the end to get the full VIN number: 18335HE*14021 (*there may be one or two '0's here as Volvo didn't know how many cars they were likely to produce!) Hope this helps, how's the restoration going Dave? might see you sometime this summer if you are at any Cheshire shows! Paul |

Andy.,
Yes mine is stamped from the back of the plate. Those examples of stamped plates look very good. I think simon at brookhouse volvo can supply vin plates and also mentions on the website that he can get them stamped. Don't know how much or what the quality of stamping is like. I have seen some bad ones over the years at shows. Dave |

Hi Dave and All
Yes the person that Simon recommends is the link I posted previously (http://www.classic-plates.com/). I Just had a quote from them at £65 - which I think is a bit steep for a bit of stamping! So I too am on the look out for some-one cheaper - if anyone can recommend I would be grateful - or maybe it's down to the local engravers. |

Andy,
It's the same company I had a quote from about 18 months ago. I cannot remember how much it was but thought it expensive at the time. However the stamping does look very good and very similar to original. It depends how original you want into look, it's difficult to try and do it yourself. I have got the stamps to do it, but not reverse stamp, spacing, keeping it line, and the correct amount of pressure on each one is what your paying for. Would it 'peck at your head' if was not done properly. I still think its expensive but there does not seem to be anyone else out there providing the same service. I think £35 to £40 would be more acceptable and probably more owners would take up the offer. I presume that you have to provide your own vin/chassis plate. Dave |

Yes that's right - you supply the plate, the quote is just for stamping and postage - and takes about two weeks.
Appreciate what you say about "pecking" - but at that price I might just have to get over it. I have seen a few cars that have had their plates engraved and these don't seem too bad - I think maybe the early Jensen cars were engraved rather than stamped. Anyway I'll get a quote for engraving and then decide. Andy |
