The police liked the T5 not the D5 so much. Seems to matter little anyway in Cheshire 3/4's of traffic now are 5 Series BMW's E61 or F11.

Devon Cornwall police have gone back to Volvo's Loads of new V70 traffic cars ,they had BMW's but I think the had some very big engine bills when the miles are around 100k mark.

I have se sport so it's not r design or lux. And I am not saying d5 is a sports car I am just saying that similar car with similar bhp left me for dust simple as that. I simply prefer chat about cars and power rather than chat about new shirt and shoes so its not ego it is my hobby

No one knows if the car in question was similar bhp...judging a book by it's cover and all that.

SE Sport was simply a forerunner to the R Design so pretty much the same...

There is no way a 180bhp diesel would keep with a 200bhp turbcharged petrol.

The octavia vRS has the same top speed as the C30 T5.

Diesels are only good for 3 second 'in gear' drag races. And vs a petrol engine you will lose the second you have to change up.

Not in my case, I own a 535D M sport auto and it's been remapped by DMS to 321 bhp, 700NM of torque, and dpf removed. That beast can shift, it is ridiculously powerful and bloody fast, that's the only diesel that can go past 150mph. Previous diesel i owned struggled to go past 120mph, inc my D5.

Absolutely!

Just because one has a few ponies under the bonnet, it doesn't mean the car is sporty. A 600 hp Mercedes S600 isn't sporty, though it could eat ANY Volvo for breakfast. And a 180 hp diesel is everything else BUT sporty. And just adding "R-Design" to make it "sportier" even though the only difference is the package you order and not the whole car... Well...

If I buy a Mercedes A Class with the AMG package, I don't get the AMG power, I get the looks. If I order it with the 1.5l diesel, it doesn't make it faster. And there is always a reason why a sportier petrol (say a T5) is classed as sportier...

A 700 hp Volvo FH12 isn't faster than a 1.5l Morris Marina... Even though it has the torque and power

Not true....T6 and the D6 plug in hybrid...

In regards to P1 cars the T5 is substantially more powerful, power is not everything though one other thing was mentioned above is weight...the skoda was probably lighter to.
