Does if you rev it to 3000

Must be a different spec in Norway. In UK the D3 is a 5 cylinder 2 litre single turbo unit, D5 is five cylinder twin turbo 2.4 litre unit.

Yep, my D3 is a 2,4. Think its just a downgraded D5.

Default xc60 noise when accelerating

The xc60 does not like supermarket diesel put some good quality diesel in and see the difference, its amazing the difference it makes.

My XC60 was in the garage last week for this as it got so bad, it was sending me mad. Anyhow, they have fixed it. Their engineering sat with me whilst I did a short test drive, to which he also said both doors were rattling. He said they would do everything when it was in, under warranty, which they did.

Very quiet now.

Hi UKDave,

Did they tell you what the problem was? I have a 2.4D AWD, and for some time now makes what I believe is the same problem you report, but for me it sounds like what I would call "a valve beating". It also shows only under acceleration, but it is always there. It clearly comes from the engine compartment. I even thought it might be from the turbo, but here (italy) they say it is OK.....

So maybe I can tell them what they found in your case....

Thanks for any help, this is driving me crazy...

My T6 has the same sporadic rattling sound on acceleration. It sounds to me like a heat shield or some other thin vibrating piece of metal under the hood - sounds like it is on the driver's side aft in the engine compartment, but I don't see anthing obviously loose there. It is minor in terms of volume, but it definitely is a little annoying. I'll have it looked at during the first service in a month or so and report back.
