yep i can confirm the pcc feature is very handy. Key in pocket, jump in and press starter. Bosh!

Its amazing how quickly you get used to it. I regularly jump in the wifes honda, press the starter button and then realise I forgot to put in the key.

PCC is one of the best options to go for IMO, it's just so user-friendly to jump in the car, your foot naturally lands on the brake, press start.....and go

Let's see, to start my wife's Subaru I: 1. unlock the car; 2. open the door; 3. sit down; 4. insert the key; 5. turn the key and, like magic, it starts.

Now, to start my XC60 you must: 1. unlock the car; 2. open the door; 3. sit down; 4. press down on the brake pedal; 5. place the key into the slot; 6. press the key in until it is firmly seated in its slot; 7. press the start button=two additional steps if my math is correct.

Now, I am being a bit silly with this post, but the button does add two steps to starting the car. Plus, I can no longer just lean in to start it (on a cold day) I must actually put a foot into it and press on the brake. Is there some benefit to these added steps.

Auggie.
I don't want to split hairs but surely the XC60 steps 5 and 6 are actually the same unless you are very badly co-ordinated or extremely weak... Do agree about the bit on cold days though....!

Neither, just exaggerating a bit. But, seriously, I do find that putting in the key, and then pressing it so it seats into place is a two step process. Granted, a very closely related two step process, but it is not one fluid movement. Maybe I am doing it wrong.

I was led to believe that it is a safety measure; the lock barrel / steering lock assembly can cause serious injuries in an accident, so the decision was made to move the lock to a different place. Drivers then found it was easier to press a button than turn the key when it was on the dashboard.
Funny thing is it's exactly the same as my 1958 Morris Minor!

Let's just be clear that putting the gear in neutral (or park for auto) and putting your foot on the brake is simply good practice, so should be ignored for the purpose of this analysis.

I see. Do you generally have any problems inserting cyclindrical-like objects into tight places...........
