dam car. i was thinking selling it, wish I kept my old 2010 S80 which i never had a problem within 6 years owner it, think that was the Ford 2.0 engine.

i was thinking writing to Volvo HQ, it's only done 29000 on the clock.

Or buy a new one. what have others done.
Why didn't the Volvo dealer replace the EGR cooler? I'm guessing the problem is the common issue of the cooler becoming blocked, although you haven't posted the actual error code! Cooler replacements are normally covered by a 100% Volvo goodwill contribution.

The EGR valve usually sticks open when affected by soot build-up, which causes poor running (mine became undriveable). Valve replacement is normally subject to a 50% Volvo goodwill contribution (so cost me £337).

There was no recall for EGR cooler or valve replacements/upgrades, so basically it's irrelevant that 'all' recalls have been done. I've had all the recall work done on mine (including the recent seat belt anchor one last week) and there wasn't one for the EGR system. EGR rectification issues are dealt with on an individual basis when they arise and are confirmed by a Volvo dealer, who then liaises with Volvo UK for a goodwill contribution... this may then depend upon service history, age and/or mileage.

i will get my cousin whos the mechanic to get the code and and I'll post them.
you reckon I just changed the coolant. I do notice sometimes if I break hard or go around the corner too quick, a warning saying coolant level low. When i check, it on the just on max. I topped it up twice just a cup or two and over the months, i notice it gone back to same level. Not losing anymore, stays the same level, this is when the engine is cold.
My cousin who's mechanic, said there had a Volvo and it did the same, he kept coming back and couldn't why, no leaks and asked the customer to take back to the dealers.

You're confusing the words 'cooler' and 'coolant'... what you're describing here has nothing to do with EGR cooler or valve problems.

However, there was a recall last year for a modification to be performed on the coolant system. Was this carried out?

Actually you can look up the recall status on the Volvo website. You'll need your VIN.

Or - using your registration number - you can look up the safety recall status here, under the MoT history... https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

As already mentioned, there wasn't ever a recall for EGR issues.
