At 28 grams it will be trying to regen at highway speeds,
Need to know what temp the dpf is getting to under forced regen conditions, Temp needs to be - cat around 250'c and dpf around 650'c During driving cat will be higher but dpf should be similar to above

Update i typed my problem imto wefixanycar and a garage phoned me basically the guy said that i had to stop taking my car to dealers and locals who only
diagnose faults via their computer. I took the car to him and he took it for a drive and then removed a pipe or two from top of engine then told me the turbo was passing oil and thats why the smoking was happening. He did this free of charge and he came across as very knowledgable. he explained why it was smoking and knew when it would occur and why it wasnt the stem oil seals or the piston rings. He also said the dpf may be blocked but once the turbo is fixed the dpf may clear. If anyone has a problem that needs diagnosing and your near leeds go to global cars on Geldard road and ask for steve reccommended. Having said all that i now need a Turbo anyone any ideas where to get one Thanks again for all replies. |

turbo failure at 52,000 miles on a D5. Shes had a hard life or the wrong oil has been used or she has been shut off when hot for damage to occur in such a short space of time. D5 turbos are known to do 200k easy both of mine are well over 100,000 and still original

Absolutly i agree i think it may have had the wrong oil. It is only slightly passing the seals its not like the cars not running. and most would probably ignore but i like it to be right. And since the oil has been changed it is a bit better less smoke.

All D5's have oil in turbo pipes,
unless its absolutely swimming in it then i wouldn't be jumping for a turbo without checking the coating on the cat first to see if its still there

Best way is to remove it and just look at it,
It should be a gold colour, if its flat white its knackered, Yeah the first box in exhaust is the cat, the second is the dpf, When the car regenerates it over fuels which you already know, it does this to help start a chemical reaction in the cat and its this that increases exhaust gas temperatures to the level where it can burn the soot off in the dpf (650'c) Just had a quick google trying to find a pic for referance but carn't find one Had a v70 doing exact same a couple of years ago (blue smoking on forced regen and soot filter clogging issue's) and it turned out to be lining on cat and we only realised after we stripped exhaust system off a known problem free car and the faulting car and looked at the 2 cats side by side
