I've driven the car many times along the length of the M4 as I go to Cambridge fairly often, and I'm pretty sure it does happen then too IIRC, but I'm not quite sure I understand why one car (4 year old C70 with SC901) doesnt have the problem, yet the 6 month old V70 does. Are Volvo fitting lower quality radios or is it likely I have a fault. Dealer hasnt bothered to get back to me even though they alluded that I was not the first to mention this on the V70. Apparently they were logging a call with Volvo UK.

Not sure how to explain this one but I get the same problem on my 02 Vectra GSi with top of the range radio.

I'm guessing the loss in signal is only for a split second? I've been told it's due to the radio searching for a station and being a single head scan. Latest radios apparently are twin head so that you've always got one or the other scanning for a signal so you don't get this dropout.

Having said that, the standard set up in my 2.0D SE is light years ahead of my last runaround, a 57 plate Focus, which even in strong signal areas, failed to lock onto any BBC station when on an auto search. Suffice to say that the radio in the 2.0D SE doesn't drop out at all, whereas the Vectra does.

I'd get the stealer to try a new radio and compare over say a week's use.

Thanks for the info. Yor are correct, the signal drop is split second, but is noticeable and annoying.

So it could be the dual scan bit is not working. I'll see if I can get them to swap out.

Could also be that Volvo's radio build quality is getting worse (cheaper and inferior models) and that you've only got a single head type anyway.

I still think that you should convince the dealer to swap the radio. This shouldn't be a problem as if the dealer decides to test your radio, he'll have to send it away so he should give you another one in the meantime.
