Doing cheapest first. Have found if I switch on cruise before moving in the morning it switches on BUT when I touch the brake pedal it goes off so am taking the gamble as it is definitely a DIY job. No have not done a VIDA check yet.

Its a special safety feature by volvo for the local authority fleet cars, think pedantic elf n safety, it doesnt allow driver to relax until 45 minutes into journey, by which time
a - drivers coffee has started to take effect b - driver will be at destination anyway The assumption is by evening the driver will be raring to go home after a day of drivel in the office, and so be sufficiently awake to use cruise |

I have had a simillar fault. Sometimes it would switch on then go off. Turn engine off & restart then it would come on.
This became the norm for a while untill cruise would not engage & I had a Brake Assist Srevice Required message come up on the dash. I connected VIDA & this told me that there was a weak signal from the brake pedal position sensor. I pulled off the connection & sprayed WD40 down the block connector. Hey Presto no more playing silly buggers. I looked at replacing the switch but then I thought about it a little. The switch works with bellows for it to activate the signal. It either works or not. I figured if the fault was intermittent then it had to be a poor connection. Just me thinking out loud & not wanting to spend £100+ only to find out it wasn't that. |

Well new switch arrived but have not used it as the problem seems to have gone away and being of the school that says "If it ain't broke don't fix it " I have decided to leave it alone if it comes back now have a brake light switch to try with.
