Out of interest, can you tell us what the mileage was on your car when the fault appeared?

2. A loose electrical contact on the solenoid which controls the mechanism releasing the gears when the brake pedal is applied. Once the contact was repaired/made good, everything worked fine. We now have a normal box again.
I'm glad its sorted and thanks for the update.

I assume the dealer fixed it - was there any charge?

Cheers

Not much - 49k.
I also had a new engine fitted at 39k...

No charge from the dealer. They confirmed the fault was not something they had caused, i.e. it wasn't electronic and it was to do with the mechanics of the box. So it was fixed by the indie, who in fairness were quick and helpful, just a shame it didn't leave their shop in proper shape the first time.

So - it cost me £24 (2 days courtesy car hire from Volvo) and about £20 in diesel to drive to and from the indie.
