It may sound peurile, but if going back to Volvo to ask them about bulletins or whatever regarding the belt change/bolt, I would not let them know you are the same person - you have to be just as sneaky as they very often are!
As for the repair, have you got an independent Volvo specialist nearby, or do you know a trained Volvo mechanic? Because 5,000 euros sounds a lot of money. The engine could be rebuilt in-situ, but depending on the ferocity of the belt's letting go, there may be myriad tiny shards of metal from the valves, I would expect, lurking in the depths, and it really needs the top end stripping out completely, sump pan removing, and the whole lot blowing out with a high pressure air hose before you start the repair. Personally, I'd leave it to a specialist. Hope I may have been of some small help.

Munich Lawyer
I'm not sure the phone number is up to date but you should be able to trace him from the bar directory if push comes to shove.
Gunter Poll Ohmstrasse 22 8082 Munich T. 00-49-89-345965 Tell him Richard Bridge said Hi. I know him as an entertainment lawyer and used him with success getting an English debt enforced in Germany for a film producer. He is bright. Of course he may have got famous and expensive since then..... I am having no joy tracing the EU directive that harmonizes implied terms and remedies in contracts for services. I can find the one for consumer remedies for goods, but that's not what I want right now! |

Yes it it’s the Ingolstadt where they make Audi’s. Perhaps I should have bought one.
I have sent a mail to Volvo and asked them to confirm if they have issued a technical bulletin on this particular bolt. As of yet I have no reply. I have also ordered the Volvo CD’s from e-bay, so perhaps I will find something in there. My layer has sent a letter to the Dealer asking for his explanation for the breakdown in writing. I will wait until I have some feedback before deciding how to proceed. If I get no satisfaction from either I will have to start legal proceedings. If I do I will try and contact Gunter Poll. It would be better to have a layer that at least has a technical grasp. It would also be good is if I can establish a precedent. For this problem to be in the FAC’S it must have happened on more than the one occasion. Does anyone know of an instance where it has happened with a Volvo dealer and either Volvo or the dealer has picked up the repair bill? How could I find out? Thanks to everyone who has contributed. Volvo, Sweden
As Bruno says on the turbobricks board, I thinkyou would be well advised to contact VOlvo Sweden directly about the service bulletin, not VOlvo Germany.

If you dont manage to get any compensation, Surely it would be cheaper and easier to replace the engine with one from another car rather than rebuilding the original. There are quite a few 16v ones about still.
To rebuild it yourself would be possible and cost less than E5000 but you would need a lot of tools and a place to do it.
