Makes sense and sounds similar to the DIY solution I came up with for my 3790T/ GTM35 which is connected to the cars aerial for better reception, mine is simply decoupled using a 10,000nF ceramic disk capacitor with the nav unit fitted to a Brodit clip mounted on the dash, no issue with reception though throughout the UK.

@tem, its quite possible the aerial connection from the GTM10 has become disconnected resulting in no TMC data, Classic FM is used by iTIS Holdings to supply RDS data, this is the system employed by TomTom for RDS data, a seperate set of radio stations (not Classic FM) are employed to furnish your Garmin device with RDS data - Mike

First - Thank you Mike.

Please as a matter of urgency can you giive me a list of radio stations that transmit TMC info?

Maybe, where I live, North of Inverness, I cannot get TMC.
All my previous MB's and Volvo's got TMC from Classic FM.

Thank you,

tem.

North of Glasgow you will be devoid of information on the device (this doesn't explain the lack of info on the french trip though) the last info I had for Garmin TMC was as follows:

Thank you Mike.

The map certainly does not cover where I live.
Halfords in Inverness state that the Garmin Nuvi's that they have installed do pick up the TMC signal locally.

Will just have to wait until tomorrow and see what Volvo come up with.

The map is quite old so it could be that additional transmitters are now in use further North than Glasgow, I think the map is around four or possibly five years old! - Mike

the TMC information can be found at this site

http://www.itisholdings.com/wcore/showdoc.asp?id=688

This is the company that owns TMC - it shows that Grampian is covered, though it doesn't appear to show anything in further north, may be that Inverness is on the limit.

There is a transmitter at Mounteagle, which covers the Moray Firth area and also gives cover up the East coast, North of Inverness as far as Wick.

excellent, I missed that reference, will also be where Inverness is picking it up from - therefore should cover your area and as you have the frequency now it should work

The Garmin units get there Traffic data from "Traffic Master" which is a totally different company to iTIS Holdings, they also use a different network of radio transmitters - Mike

Mike,

That would seem to imply that it is not TMC then, which is what was being talked about

As you say Traffic Master is different from TMC, possibly explaining why Halfords is able to get TMC but Tem cannot his Garmin to work - it is looking for Traffic Master and not TMC
