I don't see how impossible coasting at the speed limit on motorways the display flick between 48 and 62 MPG depending on gradient, occasionally 74.8 was showing on steeper downhills. It is easy to sit there with your foot a few mm too far down and not gain any significant speed, I had a lot of practice teasing extra miles out of a big 4X4 many people report 24-26 on a run out of a 2.8 Delica I used to regularly return 30 occasionally 32. You dont save a lot of time accelerating hard, or braking late, the few extra seconds saved rushing up to the speed limit from every roundabout only knock a few mins off a long journey but lots off MPG. The torque converter wastes a lot of power / fuel when accelerating hard. I try to minimise braking, just do a lot of careful planning to time things well.

This is interesting but not impossible, far from it.

I recorded my best ever average mpg figure of 51mpg on the way home from PWCars. So 44mpg isn't that good I'm afraid. What are PWCars doing that's what I want to know.

Here is the photo I took just as I reached the congestion zone in central London. You can see the warning sign for the zone that has just come up on the Road Angel and the average mpg in the display.

ye nice one the impossible is possible!

I have not quite got that high but I am on 53 plate 55k miles, I imagine newer models are a bit more economical. Since it was showing 44 I have now done 62 miles on very rural roads mostly B roads some tracks with 5 passengers and a heavy pair of kayaks + kit on board so its dropped a bit

I saw a post on the Land Cruiser forum Amazon thread that also shows driving style makes a difference:
"I assume it is a Auto ! I think there is a technique to driving an auto, if
my wife drives she gets about 17/18 and If I drive it I can get about 29Mpg

Hell of a diffrence ! "

Ah I guess of you are checking as you come into the congestion zone from PW you haven't wound your way through many winding and hilly bits, there are a lot of junctions and humpy bits that would have pulled mine down in the last 20 miles of my journey.

I took it as I was about to turn right onto Earls Court Rd travelling south to Crystal Palace. The photo was just a bit of fun as I knew that stop the start traffic in central London was going to knock the average down and I'd never seen the average mpg readout that good before. It was a warm day and the car was warm when I picked it up which all helps.

ye they are not so economical in traffic but give them the open road and they are fine. I dread to think what it will be like on the mountain roads in Spain next week.
