bill have you blocked of the pipe that goes to the egr valve, is that worth a try to see if the egr is faulty.also i take it you have checked all pipes even the one that goes to the power brake booster the thick black one.i take it you have checked vardis and that ecm code. on the egr itseslf it looks a sealed unit and can not be opened.

Mike, Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try blocking the pipe to the valve tomorrow and see what happens - I assume that makes the controller think the valve works. I haven't checked the pipe to the brake booster properly due to access - will check that too. Yes, I've read through VADIS diagnosis but really need a vacuum gauge. Regards.

I have the same/similar fault on my 2000 S80 TDI I have replaced the solenoid valves in vac system and blanked off the erg valve which made no difference!
then using vadis we noted the error comes on when the egr valve opens but checks on the egr valve found no fault with it. I am still no further along with this problem however the one thing I havent tried is replacing the particulate filter which I removed after it started breaking up this was about the same time as the egr error started occuring! I didnt notice at first because I was chasing a boost leak! I hope this helps in some way. Paul

I checked all the pipes today and they seem OK. The egr controller clicks with 12v applied and there is some vacuum at the pipe connecting to the egr valve (but not a lot at tickover). I don't have a vacuum gauge so can't test properly. I also can't see how the flow is sensed - the only ECU connection to the egr system is the electrical connection to the egr controller, so how does it know of a flow fault - surely the MAF can't tell it? I have VADIS but not a VCT2000. I haven't removed the egr valve as I don't have new gaskets and need the car. Performance isn't affected so it can wait until I've more time. Annoying though. BTW, don't think the V70 classic di has a particulate filter. Regards. Bill |
