I run a bit of 2 stroke oil in the diesel tank.
Reason I do so is the lack of sulpher in diesel these days, this sulphur used to lubricate the system, now low sulphur diesel doesnot .

Mate of mine had a BMW 5 series, high pressure pump, tank pump 4 injectors all had to be renewed along with flushing the pipes and cleaning the tank as the high pressure pump shed particles of itself throughout the system as it wore away. His was not an isolated case according to his research and his pump when sent to a reputal reconditioned was deemed scrap it was so badly worn, on an 80k mile car.

BMW use Bocsh pumps, same as volvo.

Paul.

Never ever had that with a volvo ,, they might take the better grade of Bosch pump, they have always done that in the past ..

the sheer volume of "advertisements" and "commercials" for products like these should tell you they are "snake oil" at best, and out and out "con" at the worse.
If they can make You think "it is better so its worth the £" then they have won all the way to the bank

"here spend £££ on these clip on magnets to go on your fuel line, they improve Everything and *insert pseudo science bs here to fool the masses" add in a "introductory offer" or "special buy it now price" ,, and watch the £££ roll in,,

if you are Really concerned about taking care of the "dpf" on your diesel car due to city/short trips only then you need to Sell the diesel and use a petrol.

That may be the case Clan, but as the cost of a new pump and injectors is probably more than an 11 year old car is worth, £4 on a litre of Halfords mineral 2T oil pales into insignificance in comparison when used at the 5 ml per litre ratio. About 5the equivalent of a shot of red ex per gallon back in the day for upper cylinders lubrication.
I choose to look at it as preventative maintenance.

In truth I was not aware there were grades of Bosch pumps, another school day and prehaps we owe volvo engineers our thanks for their foresight.

Paul.

with the newish mondeo MK 5 it is relatively common on higher mileage for tiny shards of metal to go into the system pipes directly to the injectors and cost a LOT of money to fix , Also the cam lobe breaks up in the diesel pump .. Ford recommend changing everything , including the tank and lines . I never hear of this on a Volvo ..

Many years ago I was approached to run a trial on Slick 50 in our fleet of cars.

I was told that it would improve fuel economy by costing the pistons with something that would reduce friction and hence improve economy.

I was was give a huge amount of paperwork which allegedly proved the claims. I read this in detail and found that the research was done on strut pistons not engine pistons. The trial was not completed.

Believe what you like but if these things worked surely the vehicle manufacturers would use them a sell you a top up at each service.

If that is the case then no matter how you look at it, over here in the UK it would be 100% illegal, aka false advertisement and trading standards would come down on them, hard.
