My insurance is due in a couple of weeks and I'll be shopping around this weekend as Tesco have come up with a massive renewal quote.

For anyone who isn't aware of it I would strongly recommend following the Money Saving Expert guide here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/

My best result from following this guide was a few years ago when I had a 16v Punto - I went from a £700 renewal quote to paying £200 with £100 cashback, making it a net cost of £100 fully comp for the year.

I can second that link/process from MSE, used lots of times, takes up half an hour of your life, but never fails to yield good results in my experience. I got my mums insurance down to under £90 for close to £300, and mine to under £500 where i was looking at closer to £750

I'm not looking again until Sept because I can do without all the credit searches on my record, that annoys the pants off me does that.

Anyway, I've seen £7000+ before now but my last renewal was £438 with Elephant, 10yrs NCB and no claims/points and with a £1000 voluntary excess. It's about £650 with a "normal" excess, but it's not worth claiming if I write it off. I got charged £85 for changing the car mid-term which is their "new car to you" surcharge plus a bit for admin.

I've also always used that MSE link but elephant renewal always comes up cheapest in Manchester, mainly because they're the only ones who offer a £1000 excess, Admiral are more or less the same price on comparison sites as they're the same company.
