Default Update

Hi,

Went into Stratstones on Friday to pick up pads and my strange new "spring" for the V90.

Was approached by the Service Manager re the parts fitted and what parts should have been fitted (needed to get the information so far collated back to Lee). Lee in Parts said that he had a reply from Volvo CS or Tech support to advise that the "levelling kit" was the right one for all models...!

Uhhhh... So why are there different part numbers for levelling kit shocks and springs to the road holding kit shocks and springs??
Sounded much like the advise re the leaf spring mentioned above, Use the same part and you will have no issues in answer to whats the difference - is one stronger than the other??
I think Volvo tech advice/support in the UK - on the above basis - is a mockery. If you want real tech help or assistance for an issue - post a question to the Swedish support site..!!!

So, shall see what is suggested by Mr Speeds PA or Stratstones..

Have you tried asking Peter Milnes? I am sure I once read a post that the IRS had a standard carbon/glass fibre spring and that there was a uprated/heavy duty steel version. Is it the later you require?

I believe I have ordered the "heavy duty" spring - also a carbon fibre one.. I think steel would be a bit OTT. We'll see soon enough.. Topic for spring Here..

Right, back to the issue of the leveling kit and the 940..

Was in Strats again today enquiring about the workings/fitting of the rear window seal trim clips.

Was approached by Trevor who advised me that Mr Speed would contribute 50% of the cost to replace, I getting the removed kit for "disposal".
The cost of the rear end "Road holding" kit? £925!!!
For 2 x lowered springs and 2 x lowered Nivos!!! and ancillery bits.

My first thought was, that lowered kit sounds a tad expensive!
Say £180 per shoch and £100 per spring we are still only getting to £560...
My second thougt was, what would I want with a second hand leveling kit for a standard 940? Why would I want to go to the trouble of trying to sell the damn things??
Not my problem..
Third thought was 50%? Pardon? This was not my fault. The kit has only 10% of useful life useage on it.. It was not my fault. I didn't select the wrong parts....

Now, going back earlier, Lee in parts, asked Volvo UK what should be fitted to my car to replace the self leveling kit that was on it.
And they came up with the answer that a standard self leveling kit (with associated standard Nivo shocks and standard length springs) would be the correct thing to fit!! Sorry, but my others half bunnies would know better!

So off to ask Volvo Sweden what should be fitted inc part numbers.. Lets see what they say.

And I will be getting back to Mr Speeds delightful Assistant too...

Simple problem with a simple solution but the tedium you are having to go through just to get the right outcome is dreadful.

Hi,

Just got the parts priced from Marshalls in MM (Thanks Wayne).
Cost was £250 per shock and £61.10 per spring.
And then less 10% for VOC

Starts did not mention Discount for VOC but I take it that they would apply 5% as these parts need ordering (or may do Trade @ 9.5%)...
Nor did they mention labour charge.

Now it maybe there are different parts?? More research required.

I also have advised that the 50% offer was not acceptable at this time..

Hi,

Decided to check the prices that were quoted to me for the correct Nivo's and springs at another dealer.

So, spoke to Wayne over at Marshalls (Thanks Wayne for your time and trouble) to find the correct parts etc

Arrived at a price of £250 per shock and £61.10 per spring.
Grand total of £622.20 inc and to which I could apply my 10% VOC discount..
£300 difference so I suspect that the Strats includes a hefty labour bill too.

Why are you going around the houses so to speak?

You paid parts and labour to replace your suspension, the dealer fitted the wrong parts. That's not your problem, and if the dealer was taken over / bought out by another dealer group, then surely they bought it as a going concern, with all the customer records.

I would be onto Trading Standards and Volvo head office. Sod this softly softly approach.

Hi,

Well, given that Volvo Uk recommend the fitting the wrong kit!!! what sort of approach can they have?

I am interested to find out exactly what "Volvo" customer services is really like.
Hence the topic and my step by step approach.
I am giving them every chance to do the right thing, at every opportunity.

If they don't want to take the many chances I will give them...
