But +1 for swapping for a used one, when looking make sure you select the AWD version if that’s what your car is. XC60 gearboxes should fit as well. An XC90 gearbox might have a different final drive ratio, not sure.

You’ve no way lost that amount of fluid from the leak as you describe it, if I’ve read your post correctly, I would believe the garage doing the clutch swap has not refilled the box - most of the fluid would have been lost during that work.
Didn't know about the XC60 situation... Cheers for that.

Just thinking on this....

There's another post in the P2 forum at the moment where a member in the US has converted his 2005 XC70 from auto to manual (no manuals were offered in the US) using an XC90 gearbox but he's had compatibility issues with the driveshafts.

If you do come across a potential a used gearbox from a different year or model of car - I'd double check the number of driveshaft splines before you get spanners out...

I was thinking long term of lifting this a lot higher than it was. I heard through the USA lifted volvo group, There was mention that any higher than 4", XC90 driveshafts could be used.

BUT, I am unsure on whether to buy this second hander- It IS from an XC70,
But with new bearings and guarantee, I suppose it would make sense to have the 'box repaired. It does say XC70 6 speed manual. yostumpy, if this pulls through, I owe you a beer or 5!

But any further issues, I suppose I will ask them to stop work and see if they would fit a second hander. I will phone them tomorrow and see what they say.
If its not on the ramp and in bits, I will ask them to wait for this second hand box. If it is in bits, I guess I am committed. I would let them get on with it.
