My daughter had a V50 diesel before her present XC70. The V50 developed a fault causing it to go randomly in and out of limp mode. Diagnostics failed to show any helpful codes. EGR was checked and found not to be seriously coked up but was cleaned anyway. Fault was eventually traced to the EGR stepper motor. Replacement from dealer cost about £150 and cured the problem. Dealer commented that they had never ever been asked to supply a stepper motor.

Thanks all. I do have VIDA and it points to a signal low on the EGR.

I still haven’t looked at the EGR stepper motor, hope I might have a loom this weekend. Performance just isn’t what it should be I feel so I’m determined to get to the bottom of it!

Default Fault codes read

Well that free App “car scanner” worked really well with the Carista reader £16 off Amazon. It showed up these historical faults -
1) P0404 (22) - EGR System
2) P0404 (21) - EGR System
3) P2015 (00) - Intake Manifold Air Control Actuator Position Sensor Bank1
4) P0101 (16) - MAF Sensor Range/Performance problem

However the faults wouldn’t have been cleared down since I cleaned out the EGR valve a few months ago so I cleared all the codes & took it for a thrash.
Although the “loss of power problem” didn’t manifest itself “well it wouldn’t, would it” I ran the diagnostic again and the only fault it came up with was the P0101(16) MAF so I guess my 1st course of action should be to change the MAF & if the loss of power happens again run a further diagnostic???
Any advice contrary to this plan from more knowledgeable members is welcome.
