There is no temp gauge on them, well not on mine 2012 XC60. I assume I’ll get a message come up if it gets over hot . Did you not get a user manual with the car, if not I do believe you can download them.

Yes, its annoying not having a temperature gauge on the dash I admit.

The newer Volvo models (2014 onwards I think?) have temperature gauges on the dash though.

Mine does have a temperature gauge (at least on the 'elegance' display mode I use).

But aren't temperature displays now just driven by the EMS to show a nice steady reading exactly in the right place so long as the actual engine temperature is in an acceptable range once warmed up? Mine always sits suspiciously in the exact same spot with no sign whatsoever of any modulation due to - say - the thermostat opening and closing.

Using my Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor and a suitable app I can access a precise engine temperature. So you should also be able to do this using other diagnostic equipment.

I'm happy to rely on warning messages if there's an overheating problem. I already do this for the oil level!

Hi as Zebster says a decent smartphone app and obd bluetooth adapter can display lots of live data as you drive and is reasonably inexpensive to do .
Judgeing by your other posts you are going to need to display gearbox oil temp and other data .
I use the carscanner app and this is just a sample of live data that can be displayed
Hope this helps
