It's grand in the V50 T5 - it's just the C70 T5 that likes the good stuff.

Putting any additives etc aside I would have thought that the only cars that would really benefit from the higher RON of super unleaded would have been the cars that have variable valve timing?

I think you're right, and certainly higher bhp cars, especially our turbos. My ST220 didn't have VVT hence why I think 95 or 97 had the same result, but the same engine in jags with VVT does need 97+.

well here in the Us the highest octane fuel sold at the gas stations is 94. Or you could travel to the local race track and buy race gas and im sure the octane rating is somewhere around 100 +? however buying race gas is def gonna cost you , prob around $7 bucks/gal? anyway say i buy 94 or 93 octane is there a well proven gas additive that i could just add to my gas at fuel up time that would bump up my octane rating? thoughts? ideas? cause i have plans on a pretty sweet map w/downpipe no cat.

Im sure I seen a post somewhere on here before, where their T5 engine had burnt a hole in some of the valves as a result of using the wrong grade of petrol?

This is not got news im reading. From my own personal knowledge of what i have read , and watched on tv 99% of fuel treatment adds are junk? i just need to boost the octane up a bit. It has been mentioned before (not here) by adding some type of household cleaning product will boost your octane up? i find this to be too risky. EDIT: i recall the household item , acetone i was told will raise your octane level? Last edited by zerocool; Oct 29th, 2013 at 15:42. |

Don't fancy that very much. You will end up blowing yourself up.

yet again , not good news. we need a winner somewhere? I just dont trust those bottles of $2.99 octane booster. meh , i guess 93 will have to work. I dont have plans on racing in the gumball rally or anything of that nature , however what if a mob of angry hells angel bikers start chasing me? sh*t. something's gotta be able to boost up your octane?

Don't forget that the US and UK have a different method of measuring octane Higher octane fuel is better in turbo cars. Subaru's especially run a lot better on LPG than petrol mostly due to the higher octane |
