So the engine management light is on now. Just took 700ml of oil out of it as well as had the code 097 on the dash. Starting to think it might be DPF related.

Best get the codes read through the OBD port. That will give you a much better idea of where the issue is. I just use a free app (Car scanner - select 'Volvo Platform 3 MY2008+ profile) and bluetooth OBDII unit.
Any whooshing or whistling type noise under boost is most likely a failed boost hose. That could be other reasons, but it's not uncommon. |

.Update, driving to get the codes read and the error message cleared. Codes read and nothing showing or stored, so a smoke/leak test was done which highlighted a split in the driver side intercooler hose.
Diving home message came back on and went into limp home. The hose has been temp repaired but message won't clear but boosting fine. So now need to source a hose and clear the error message. Last edited by Calum86; Sep 13th, 2022 at 20:20. |

Engine service required message
Hi, I'm new to this forum, I have a similar problem, I have just replaced my engine and gearbox with a good secondhand unit from an S60 d5 2003, which ran perfectly I drove the car several times to be sure the gearbox was OK. The original engine was very good but the gearbox was totalled just wouldn't move anywhere, the messages were on the dash prior to the swap, now I can't delete the messages, I've read the codes, no error codes, but it started first time as it always has and until the message are displayed the turbo kicks in as it should, but onced it's idled for 20 seconds the messages pop up and not turbo(limp mode) you can hear the difference in the engine!! All hoses are good doesn't appear to be any air leaks. The only difference between the 2 units is the MAP sensor on the original unit it was on the inlet manifold and on the replacement it's on the intercooler outlet. I litterally dropped the whole unit subframe suspension radiators out of one into the other engine harness all matched up and a lot simpler than changing just the gearbox.
I've changed the fuel filter as the car has been sat for the last couple of years, but no difference. Where do I go from here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks. |

With what are you reading the codes and trying to delete them?

Clear codes and calibrate with vida. Edit: A 2003? That won't help. Different "euro spec" there'll be mismatches in the software/hardware. |

Thanks for the replies, I'm reading the codes with Car Scanner, which I have been using successfully for several years.
No codes showing, I have changed the fuel pressure sensor on the rail and the regulator on the pump for the ones off the old engine, cleaned the Map, replaced the hoses to and from the turbo and blanked the egr. If I go through the cancel proceedure then start the engine and set off straight away there's no message and the turbo comes in as it should but if the revs drop below 800 the Engine Service Required message comes on and it goes into limp mode but still no codes appear. keep the revs around 900-1000 no message appears and it goes like it should!! I'm considering changing the high pressure pump, but I feel it can't be a massive problem as it runs so well, idles ok and doesn't smoke at all ?? |

blanking egr will cause problems try drilling a 7mm hole in it so not completely blanked
