I know the computer is not accurate but 51mpg from a heavy car with a 2.4 diesel engine is very good.

There are some really impressive figures being quoted on here.

Personally I average 35mpg in my 55 plate D5 (185) that is a whole 3 more mpg than the petrol BMW 528i I previously owned......wow.

best I've ever seen is 35.1!

Diesel is pricier than petrol so your D5 is prob heavier on fuel cost wise than the Beemer anyways?

2.4D EuIV Manual S60 managed 50.1 with mostly 60mph and odd 80mph blast across the M62 using brim-2-brim running on 16s at 34psi.

Sounds good, until you realise previous V70 D5 EuIII Manual used to get mid-60s MPG if I tried to resist the "Lane 3 Train".

i think (not often..) that the drift is kinda being lost here. We are talking about a car that returns about the same as a bloody polo, yet could fit one in the back, with all the bells and whistles you associate with a decent motor.

surely the fact that it does anything over 40 should be applauded??
