Hi dj898

I will stand corrected but in position 0 headlights (daytime running lights) and little mid LED lights should be lit - even on older 09 10 11 model year.

Maybe you have a fault on the vehicle?

Just a point that in Sydney the settings for position 0 may be different - ie it may simply mean 0 - ie lights off - zero - as it may not be a legal pre-requisite for lights to be on at all times.

Just a thought

I will double check. (after all it's been a while since I driven missus XC60 at night. )
Not sure being AU model has anything to do with it...

As over here in UK position 0 means headlights on along with little LED parking lights

Yes mate.... It's the only way that I can do this with some semblance of balance.
Well that and if I didn't write it down beforehand I'd be accused of cheating.

And to everyone...
To all who have so far participated ~ I sincerely thank you all.
There's some interesting views here. I can not comment at this stage as 'she who must be obeyed at all times' has yet to see all your replies.
As such I DARE NOT give the slightest of hints which way I went.

Thanks again all. I'm off to bed now and will show her the results tomorrow.

Morning chaps....
Well, I have now shown the good lady your replies and after a deliberation and 'heated exchange of words' we have a result!
She lovingly interchanged your views to replicate hers.

Also, I forgot to mention in the opening post; vehicle is a MY12 SE Lux Premium registered Aug 2011, fitted with Active Bending headlights with Dual Xenon lights.

Here are her answers:-

Q1. Car is parked, locked and PCC not in the vehicle?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q2. Car is moving, it is Day Time, bright sunny day?
A. Switch to the Centre position.
Q3. Car is moving, it is Day Time, Overcast?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q4. Car is moving, Twilight and Street Lights just coming on?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q5. Car is moving, Night Driving, heavy on-coming traffic?
A. Switch to the Right position.
Q6. Car is moving, Night Driving Little to Nil on-coming traffic?
A. Switch to the Right position.

In other words... for Daytime driving she has it in either Left/Centre. For Night driving it is then always in the Right position (because, wait for it... the Right position shows a picture of a Headlamp)

Now here are my answers:-

Q1. Car is parked, locked and PCC not in the vehicle?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q2. Car is moving, it is Day Time, bright sunny day?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q3. Car is moving, it is Day Time, Overcast?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q4. Car is moving, Twilight and Street Lights just coming on?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q5. Car is moving, Night Driving, heavy on-coming traffic?
A. Switch to the Left position.
Q6. Car is moving, Night Driving Little to Nil on-coming traffic?
A. Switch to the Left position.

Yes, my answer would be to simply leave it in the Left position and forget all about it.
Saves all that 'faffing' around.
Also, I find the xenon's on this vehicle are that powerful you don't need to worry about Main Beam.

Thanks again guys... In a funny sort of way it has been both educational and entertaining reading the replies.

As an end note ~ It would appear there is no clear and cut correct answer.... Well, not unless you are my wife that is!
