You have to take them out to flip to continental beam alignment. You may well not have a cloth to protect the bumper and a flat-bladed screwdriver to hand as you stand in the tiny gap between you and the car in front on Le Shuttle.

Great guide! Reading this made me realize I can fix this myself. I bought new bulbs today.
I have one question thou that popped into my head just before I began working... What happen to the key less drive data when I disconnect the battery on the car? Will they be erased? I've read stories about people who had to pay a lot to reprogram the keys to the car because of flat batteries. Or are there any sort of time limits the car can stay without battery power and still remember the data? I have a Volvo V50 1.6d 2009 model. |

xenon light replacement
I had read somewhere else about disconnecting the battery and operating the light switches a couple of times to fully discharge the capacitor in the bulb, the problem is , with the battery disconnected the lamp relay won't operate so it'll be ineffective. Disconnecting the battery is always a good safety step, particularly as these are also your daylight running lamps.

Volvo's solution is what's called Bi-Xenon by some, but since Bi-Xenon is a registered trade mark, Volvo now uses Dual Xenon to describe Xenon lights capable of both high and dipped beam.
The only car I've ever seen with separate high beam Xenon lights is the VW Phaeton. As a general observation, replacing an Xenon bulb is no more difficult than replacing a halogen one. The only thing that's more difficult is funding the purchase... I've replaced one of my D1S bulbs so far. |

The drivers side Bi Xenon just 'died' on my XC70 and I found this thread which is well written, however I cannot see on the Forum any of the associated pictures or get access to them on their 'resident' website as that is not allowing access either.
Can anyone assist with a solution please? Thanks |

I was and found that as I have less than 30 posts I was blocked from sending a PM to tt82 asking if he could reinstate the pictures. However 'problem' is now solved as I am sitting in front of the 'dead' bulb having removed it OK and looking at getting 2 from powerbulbs for less than the cost of a volvo replacement. Just trying to work out the Kelvin Rating of what was fitted to what is on offer, as I don't want to end up with dimmer lights! Cheers. |
