Hi thanks for reply. Good to know mine are not the only grey ones!

Just need to work out what colour they are.......

89's as said only had 2 speakers. If you pull the radio you'll find it has a socket for an amplifier.
The later models 92' onwards had a 4 speaker set up with the amp.
I managed to blag a later radio/cassete amp and rear speakers. Turned out the later one cassette didnt work, so just plugged the amp into the original and hey-presto.
I added the rear speakers, but being a plonker I fitted them to rear of the door, so when the door shuts the speaker grill is about 2 cms from the seat bolster! DOH.
You will need to run some speaker wire through though. I have some pics in my thread:

^^That page, go to post 55!

I agree with the comment on your other thread about the rust stains coming from the windscreen. I had this too and it turned out to be quite badly rusted underneath. This caused a bit of a problem when I developed a crack in the summer heat. I was given some good advice from Autoglass (my insurers approved repairer) who told me that if there was rust under the screen when they took it out, that they couldn't put another screen in as they couldn't provide a warranty and they didn't do body repairs. They had had customers who were left stranded with windscreen-less cars because of this reason. Instead I had to take it to a body shop for a few hundred pounds worth of body and paint, and then a mobile fitter put a new screen in. They did a great job but it was an expensive day.

I can't really think of many other things to look for. Most of my gripes have been with the K-Jet system, which you don't have. I think rust is the main thing, mostly the tailgate and beneath, and the sills, inside (particularly rear) and out. The bottom areas of the engine bay can be a little rusty (hiding under the radiator), as can the section nearest the windscreen with the wiper motor and fuel filter (due to the grey sound deadening that retains moisture). Electrical problems are probably the other things to look out for. The tailgate wiring which runs through the hinges usually breaks, but can be cheaply repaired. Volvo themselves are a great source of parts, which are quite often reasonably priced, and they can also order classic parts (that they no longer stock) from Sweden, if you are prepared to wait a week or two. I find this forum pretty helpful as well. These cars tend to run whatever and I usually find that I have problem I never knew about from reading other peoples threads.

Hi beetledrive

Thanks for the reply. The rust on the scuttle is my next job when time and weather allows.

The NS is definitely worse than the OS and (at the moment) doesn't look too bad.... (famous last words.....)

cheers.

I've been asking round a few already and at the moment 240s are in short supply. I rang Lakes as well and they are very short of them.

Seems like they are either still out there or have already been scrapped and gone.

Lots of lovely rain today

But in between the rain I did manage to replace the cam belt. The one I took off was a Unipart version as were the plugs and fan belts. Never mind it now has genuine Volvo parts.

I did replace the tensioner and the spring to be sure.

One question - what is the torque for the crank bolt please?

I took the rad out as it is as water tight as a sieve.

A little more work today and no rain woohoo.

I finished rebuilding the front except for the rad. I wanted to replace the bottom hose but Volvo said no! 😳😱

I managed to google it and found one from Micksgarage. An Irish company with a Coventry phone number. Has anyone used this company before?

Rad here Tuesday and hose Thursday. Then the engine is done and on to the brakes😨

So far the little B is fighting me all the way but I'm winning - I think.......

I tried sorting the under bonnet lamp but it just crumbled on me hence my wanted ad.

DRL sorted on NSF.

No more work this w/end as I'm busy on other things for the next two days.
