I think I am failing at some earlier stage.

This gets the .dmg file. You open that (right?), which looks like https://www.flickr.com/photos/265939...eposted-family.....& drag the Volvo badge to applications.
...& then you get the "Sensus Update MCA Europe.app" in your apps folder, yes?

THEN it is running that .app that brings up a screen for "Sensus Update Europe" - & that is the piece that just whirrs with that error message (see screenshot!)

Any clues?! Am I starting on the wrong page entirely?!!

Failed download twice using google chrome on windows, switched to internet explorer... success.
Now to install to car.

I do that, but when I run the app from there, I get constant "Error - Internet connection not established. Check the Internet connection and please try again." message

Clearly I do have fine internet connectivity......I may try my windows VM see if that works better, but anyone here got any clues!?

Must be something obvious!

Once you have used / installed the correct dmg, you should be able to click on Finder / Applications / Volvo Map Update (Europe) - double click on this to launch the downloader.

Use Utilities/Disk Utilities to format the usb to FAT 32 (USB needs to be a 32mb version!)

Hmmm.....nope, no Volvo Map Update - unless you mean the Sensus Update MCA Europe.app......which is what I am double clicking!
Hang on....it is working now. Well that is very very weird.

Excuse my ignorance, but my car is a year old and is at the dealers for a service next week, will they do the nav update along with the ECU ones, or is it DIY only for the nav due to the time it takes ?

Dealers will do it for a charge, you may be lucky with yours and get it for free but it is a user task therefore yiu will need to ask them to do it.

Is this something I need to do?

I have a 62 plate S60 R-Design Nav Lux and AFAIK the Nav has never been updated.
