I called a couple more dealers last week. Currently the best price I have is £772, saving about £50 on the full price.
Interestingly, all of the dealers are adding labour costs onto the Polestar upgrade price! They treat the Polestar upgrade as a part so add labour costs onto it. I may wait for a promotion campaign as there's no real deals to be had at the moment.

Does anyone know what the procedure is to get a Polestar Performance Optimisation done?
Is it a while-u-wait job? How much time is needed at the dealership for the upgrade? Finally, what do you get with it in terms of documentation, badges, certificates, any proof that it has been done, etc? I've had plenty of cars remapped, over the years on rolling roads so always had a printout of before and after power and torque graphs, I understand that the Polestar is a generic ECU map so I'd be keen to have some kind of proof that it has been done Woukd I notice it as soon as I drove the car?

It should take no more than an hour. The official Polestar site will tell you what you receive in terms of documentation.

Yes you can tell the difference immediately. You get a pack with a badge and some paperwork, I have not fitted my badge, I just let the boy racers wonder how a grandad in a D4 drive e has just left them for dead. Paul. |

Doesn't the dealer fit the badge on for you? I presume this is a badge that goes on the rear of the car next to the D4 badge?

I had the polestar performance remapping on my V 60 D5 AWD last week, took about 30 minutes, it certainly makes a difference to the performance especially to the geartronic shifting, I would highly recommend it! polestar send out your badge certificates and registration to the dealer who will then send it on to you if you wish to fit it yourself.

I bit the bullet and got my Polestar upgrade this morning. I ordered it last Monday so popped down to the dealership this morning to get it installed. It took just 30 minutes in the end. I got a very slight discount, which was actually a goodwill gesture for some issues I had during the car buying stage.
I've got the Polestar kit as well and the dealership stuck the badge on to the rear of the car next to the D4 badge, although I did notice a tiny scratch just above the badge that I've managed to mostly polish out using a car polishing compound so I'm not too aggrieved about that. I've been out for an hour's drive and the car is completely different now. It really is how it should have been from the factory. Not only is the usable power and torque better deployed for normal driving, it's just smoother all round to drive. Highly recommended for anyone with a D4 engine. Sure, you won't end up with a sports car, but it's a marked improvement and a very well integrated remap for the car. The 'kit' is just a blue cardboard box with a couple of booklets and a keyring inside so nothing special. Apparently the certificate for the Polestar upgrade takes a few weeks to arrive. Whilst I was at the dealership I received an email from Polestar confirming my registration. Having driven many remapped cars over the years, including 'proper' ECU remaps created on rolling roads for specific fuels, the Polestar upgrade, as a generic map, isn't too bad. It's not just the power and torque curves that are modified to help with everyday driving, but the Geartronic shifts are also remapped that makes the auto box a lot nicer to drive with.

I wonder if I can ask anyone who has a Polestar upgrade on a XC70 D5 to tell me what the effect of the upgrade is on the transmission behaviour. I am interested in the extra power but an important consideration for me is the way the Geartronic box operates. I am used to boxes with a Sport mode changing down at least one gear when the Sport mode is selected. I have always used this feature to provide engine braking coming into fast bends etc. On the Geartronic this does not happen unless you also break quite hard to slow the car and once it is slowed, then the box changes down which defeats the object of engine braking. Does the Polestar upgrade change this aspect of the box and make the Sports mode more "sporty" coming down the range as well as going up it?
I know that you can manually select gears to engine brake but I would prefer that the transmission ECU would lend a hand instead of allowing the car to coast in high gears regardless of the mode selected. I don't really want to get into a discussion of whether the box is good for purpose for other drivers, just whether Polestar changes the down shift characteristics when Sport is selected.

2019 d4 UPGRADE
Hi, got the Polestar upgrade on my 2019 XC60 D4 R Design about a year ago. I did it through Volvo so that my warranty wasnt affected. It is a great boost to your vehicle in power, control whilst driving and sounds good (especially in car )
I would once out of warranty see if it can be tweaked further as I am sure the D5 would have a higher BHP and handling!! Anyone have a D5 with the Polestar upgrade? TIA |
