Linky

Have a dig round and see what you can see

Baring in mind though that your charts will not be the same as the T4 which is the comparible turbo due to you having higher compression ratios, prob looking at a mixture of the 2 most likely and coming out at around maybe 210bhp (or thereabouts)

The first thing I did to my '99 lpt V40 was put a front strut brace on. Transformed it instantly. I still think that with the 195s on the front it's a bit undertyred but the brace nails the front end down nicely. Have owned the car from new and never had any problems with the block/pistons/rods being fragile - it's done 160k.

Have got uprated front discs and pads on order to fit with its next service plus an induction kit.

Hope to do a bit of clubby hillclimbs and sprints in it this season. Watch out for me at Shelsley Walsh. Did an untimed track day there in it a couple of years ago and it went well - would like to think I could get into the 43secs in it.

trust me, as soon as you start seriously modifying it, you will probably find out. the engine is a heap of junk unless you keep it stock or reasonably close to stock

Seems very short sighted of Volvo not to have the same spec internals on the lpt as the T4 - it's not that far down on power.

But I guess not much more than 200bhp in the S/V40 chassis is plenty. I struggle to get the 165 down (especially once the tyres get towards the end of their life about 2 months after putting the buggers on).

even the t4 block isnt great for big power. the cylinder walls are also thin compared to other cars such as evo's ect. the only reasonable s40 engine to modify is the early 1.9t4 block as the bore is smaller thus making them a bit stronger. still need to swap the rods in it tho. check out the t4 in the projects section of the showroom section. a guy with a t4 managed to do a good job of proving my rant:

Default Hmm!

I am just gonna get the kalmar remap when funds become available.

Which should give me enough power for now, besides you cant drive the roads like you could in the early 90s.

Just looked at the link to the blown block above. Ouch.

Definitely a lesson there somewhere....something like 'If God had meant S40s to have more than 200bhp he'd have given them decent rods and bore clearances'.

Lol there was also the problem of revving the nuts off that block, 6.5k is crazy levels, no power up that high either and the map wasn't designed to do it.....forged rods wont be required for 200hp even on the 2.0T
