Usually due to poor contact on the antenna ring round the lock barrel, easy fix.
Thanks as ever Chris,

You say easy - i presume it is just a matter of removing plastic covers Y/N? around the top of the stearing column - anything particular recommended for the cleaning of?

Could my neighbours false alarming V70 be caused by a similar issue???

It's quite easy, just means:

removing the shrouds round the steering column, screws underneath,

easing the plastic ring round the lock barrel off,

removing the wire going to it,

cleaning the contact pins with some abrasive to bare metal, particularly the two outer ones.

put some contact grease or vaseline on to prevent corrosion.

Reassemble.

Your neighbours false alarming V70 won't be caused by this, depends which model/year for the likely cause, better to start a new thread for it as this ones getting confusing enough!

Default Camshaft reset valve?

Silly me, I thought I had it licked, but as per ever when I got caught in a spot of traffic this morning sure enough as she hit full temp at 3 O'clock she started to misfire - not as bad perhaps as on a bad day.

This was followed by not wanting to restart after a short stop. Then up comes the engine management light - Seems the Autel is convinced the code No. is P1671...............is the "Camshaft reset valve" that gadget on top of the camshaft and adjacent to No.1 cylinder - fly wheel end...........not sure???

It's at the cambelt end, see the link on post 190.

On the turbo car it's on the exhaust cam but a similar device is on the inlet camshaft on the non turbo car.

Maybe worth taking it off and cleaning it, nothing to loose.

Sadly there is nothing to clean, at best get the new type gasket with a fine metal mesh on it £5 from Volvo

That's typical - I got one of those from the s70 turbo that provided the sensors for the gearbox! But the casting is all the other way round for the turbo.......Growl.

Strange thing is - 1. I'm sure my friends down at the main dealers did that gasket 960kg mentions when they sorted the cam belt belt.

And 2. My suspicion is that as pointed out by Chris before, just because a code is thrown does not mean a particular component failure. In this case I suspect it is the misfire that is causing the code - Is this likely?????

Not likely for this fault code, have a search on this forum and google for the code, usually means a new soleniod assembly.
