Default naming cars

The only other car we have had was a 1964 vw beetle which we purchased in 1980 our 1st car, which we called Fritz. He had a 6 volt system and although we loved him dearly he could not cope if it was dark, raining and you had to brake! We had to change him to a 12 volt system to save friends having to jump start us on a regular problem. We also bought Helga another beetle to use for a supply of parts for him. Now that is sad to name a car you are breaking. Come on folks what do you call yours.

I love the Maserati 3200GT-esque rear lights on my S60 but bright? Nah! That's why I hooked up the near side rear foglight for driving in Europe.

I loved my P2 S60, so good I bought my current S60 on the basis of it ain't broke don't fix it just make it better. How wrong can you be? It's broke and needs serious fixing so much so my next car will not be a Volvo unless they work some magic.

An iPod dash is not making me think this is a good idea having used a 5" touch screen on the move. I recently drove a TFT equipped V40, in the words of Shania Twain, that don't impress me much.

My worry with the touchscreen interface is that I am right handed, like most people. Now this wouldn't present a problem in a left hand drive car as it would be my right hand operating the screen controls, but using it in a right hand drive would be much more challenging as that means using the left hand - and like most people that is not as accurate or controllable.

Of course left handed people in UK will be over the moon with this new interface - I wonder if it was ever tested in a right hand drive car?

A lot of innovation appears to be happening in LHD prototypes, I heard similar for one of the German marques which allows gestures on top off the controller.
Not much use for continental left handers or right handed drivers in one of the 60 RHD markets around the world.

That's so true! Being left handed, I hadn't thought about that at all...

But don't you manage fine with all the controls at the moment using your left hand?

The difference is there is a click or some kind of feedback with a switch or dial today. Think about the heater control when you click that around each notch marks 0.5C. You don't get that from a touchscreen slider.

The odd one is gearchange. I am right handed but driving a left hand drive car takes some practice to be as synchronised as I am with my left hand in a right hooker when double de-clutching.

No such problem with geartronic.

I would consider a Volvo again, as long as I research it better and avoid the main stealers, as I wouldn't be buying new or trust them after being done twice now. Dont want that big thud of depreciation. I would definitely look at a Volvo Independent next time.

I think I'm in the same place as you Thrusty.

Current car is a "meh" car. It looks great but there are so many things in the interior that bug me if I were to look at a future Volvo I would hire one for a weekend and see how I got on with it then source a non-Selekt car.

Great idea by Volvo with Selekt, just crapped on by a non customer focused dealer network.......
