Contacted dealer at 0930 this morning. Service Manager wasn't available so left message for him to call me. No call, nothing.

It's beyond understanding.

You are very patient.

It's not uncommon unfortunately. My dealership is the same.

Yes, but this is a brand new £50k plus car delivered with a resprayed door. No small issue.

It goes to show that Volvo have not stepped up their customer service in line with the increased cost of these new cars.
I completely agree that spending as much for a new car should entitle the customer to a better class of service.
Your particular problem with the dodgy door is especially poignant.

Toyota do their customers proud in regard to customer service, far better than Volvo do, and for much cheaper vehicles.
SHMBO has bought a string of Toyotas over the years, and the level of customer service has played a great part in her decision to repeat buy this marque.

Yes, Toyota and Lexus. If they recruited a great designer for the European taste they would really shift some cars. The reviews just never seem favourable. I know someone who always bought BMW. He shifted to Lexus and he cannot say enough good things about them now.

Some progress of sorts this morning. Turns out the Service Manager is off this week so he couldn't possibly call me. Poor internal communication on the dealer's part and bad that he didn't inform me of this in advance.

Anyway, spoke to the Sales Manager. A new proposal is to replace the door by taking one of the same colour from a new car coming into stock. I can check the colour of the replacement door before and after fitting and retain the option to reject it. I might consider this as it's a potentially quick(ish) solution if it works and, frankly, I need to get on with other things. My main concern about this solution is how good the colour match would be on a door painted at a different time on a different car. On the other hand, I believe some plastic parts (eg bumpers) are painted separately anyway at the factory so perhaps good colour matching is possible.

Also this morning, Volvo UK's Customer Satisfaction rep has asked me for photos of the paintwork for their paint experts to look at. Can't help but think that they should've done this weeks ago, but I've passed some on to them. I've also asked for Volvo UK's comments on the door proposal once they've examined the photos.

I would be tempted to try the same if I were in your place.

As you rightly said, since the paint for a specific colour should follow a standard spec there is a good chance that the new door would be perfect (unless the actual problem was with other three doors and not the one we all thought was lol )

Sounds good if you can get a perfect colour match. They need to include something as well for your inconvenience.

Slightly unrelated, but I would also (from a curiosity perspective) like to know what will happen to the other car - will your door go on it instead and the dealer will hope the next punter doesn't spot it?

Sounds like you have nothing to lose to try the door option anyway, so let's see how that goes
