The Sensus Upgrade does not make it the same as Sensus Navigation. For example. you will not have access to the HDD for music nor the Gracenote facility nor a map of Iceland.
Can you please provide the definitive Volvo statement for this?

It has been said by people on this forum, but not by Volvo and the original statement was based upon the download size being different not on any content.

The upgrade of the Satnav is intened to allow the satnav to be updated with the same map update as used by the rest of the Sensus post Week 46 2013.

The Gracenote is already on all systems as this is what provides the data for you to see the tracks when playing a CD/DVD or most MP3s and the ability to store music on HDD has nothing to do with the update or Gracenote.

I've checked on the website and he's right, there is a different map for pre my14.

You only have to follow the link http://support.volvocars.com/uk/down...spx?cstype=map to see that it targets specific versions of Sensus with their specific download utility and this is what Volvo Support intimated to me by email. There is also empirical evidence from GMcL, myself and benr7310 that the November map update is not recognised and does not install.

Perhaps in the next cycle of updates, there may be compatibility but that isn't the case at the moment.

Also, the HDD is not listed under media sources in MY11 XC60's which have had the Sensus upgrade and it is not possible to store music thereon and MY11 XC60 SE LUX only plays from CD's, iPod or other compatible USB devices.

I may be mistaken about Gracenote database as I would have thought that it would be most useful for music tracks during the actual transfer to the HDD (when that option exists) but I guess it is also used when using external CD's or USB music sources.

Do you have any evidence, such as a statement on Volvo's web site or empirical, that the November update is intended for the upgraded Sensus and Sensus Nav, because that would be of interest to many?

It looks like I am corrected as Volvo have changed from the original position where they were using the same maps across the Sensus range. That is what I posted when I started this thread and the source that provided the information has not said that they have changed to this method whereby they are maintaining different maps.

Well at least your source was correct about the Sensus Upgrade being available and I now have maps 4 years newer than he ones I had previously for under £30 (I got a really good deal on the upgrade) , so thanks for that.

I can beat that. I got mine upgraded today (North American maps). They claimed that the technical journal article told them that they needed to do the first maps upgrade themselves, which made the process take several hours longer than I had planned (but that I can do all subsequent map upgrades). I wonder whether the techs themselves wanted/needed to see it, so they grabbed a USB stick so they could try it themselves.

And they gave me a loaner car so I wasn't stuck sitting around waiting all day. But at the end of it there was no charge and they wrote it up as warranty work.

The first thing I checked when I got back in the car was the software and maps version. The software version is now 1100 - as I expected (previously it was 1040). And maps are now V30.16.02 (previously V30.13.02).

Had the update done at Marshall Volvo in Nottingham.

Cost £108 which was made up of;
£10 software removal
£8 software purchase
£90 labour

They had the car just over 2 days as ran into problems and needed a technician from Sweden to remote into the car to fix it.

Did the map updates, loaded perfectly but strangely the Bluetooth, voice button and keyless entry wouldn't work till the update fully completed.

Standing in my dealership in Aberdeen right now. Car was booked in for update 2 weeks ago, confirmation quoted in the region of £85 to do (+ VAT). Master technician not willing to attempt because of bug. At least he is investigating further. Not happy with Volvo, as it takes me about 1 1/2 hours to get to dealer.
