Morning everyone,

Firstly I would like to apologise to Cherished5, at the end of the day reading through the threads you were just asking a question and I apologise for being abrupt and unfair towards you.

Doingitsideways you are right, it's hard sometimes to read comments and take questions the wrong way but then we all need to see both sides of the coin and if I was a potential buyer I would be the same perhaps.

Yes I think everyone is right and before offering the car for sale I should have had these sensors fitted that I have already bought from Volvo and made sure the car is ok by running it for a couple of weeks. Therefore that is what I intend to do and once sorted the car will be re-advertised. Additionally upon re-advertising I will take some much better photo's of the car inside and out and of the history so that any prospective buyer can see the condition of the car and then if interested can arrange to view.

On a helpful note (hopefully).
My 3.0 960 came to me with a lambda light on and after the previous owner having a reputable volvo mechanic look it over and pronounce the sensor needed replaced.
I also had a in tank fuel pump issue.
Turned out the lambda or heater as it says on the fusebox is the same fuse as the fuel pump.
Once this was replaced both worked properly again.

Read this thread last night and wasn't going to join in, but having seen the latest post I will.

Well done Ben1s - it makes a nice change to see someone go away, calm down, think and then acknowledge they perhaps went about things the wrong way.

I think the key thing to remember with forums like this is that so many people are very knowledgeable, which is why it is so helpful. That means we all tend to be very open about our cars and any problems they have - after all, we need and value that assistance. Of course, the flip side to that is that if you then offer the car for sale, people are bound to cross-refer other posts about it - they want the full picture.

Tends to mean you need to be far more precise and careful in what you say in a for sale post on here than you might be outside...

I still think this site is your best bet for finding a good new owner for your lovely car - good luck with the sale!
David

It is usual for a ding dong to go much longer on this forum, some went on for months.I will ask all fellow members what would you be willing to pay for such a V90.Mine I got about 18 months ago with 165000 miles on it for £1000 and just missed another 6 months ago for £600.Both mine and the one I lost out on were similar in condition to what I can see this one to be.Prices or asking prices seem to be keener in the last 6 months or so.Good points on this one are the stainless exhaust and nice shine on paint work.£4750 region wanted is that realistic do you think.I tend to see having watched any being sold you can get them for £600 to £1200 with 170000 or so miles fairly commonly, not that rare.Never seen a low mileage mint car come up for sale but I would not be adverse to £5000 for one.Be very interested to see price it obtains.I tend to think it may sell to a member on here but I would still go elsewhere to sell also.I would think no members on here would want to pay more than £2000 for the car.I do not mean to cause any offence to anyone I am just interested as an owner of a very nice V90 myself and hunter of a minter V90.

Personally, if I was looking for top dollar for what certainly looks to be a VERY tidy car, I'd have the Lambdas replaced before advertising it. If that is the problem and the MIL then goes away, then it can be advertised and sold as perfect.

Shoe on the other foot; I wouldn't even entertain paying that for a car with a running issue.
Granted, it looks perfect in every other respect, but I've been bitten too many times with sellers' claims to sort problems before collection only to turn up to find either a fix hasn't worked, or they've just not bothered at all.

Appreciate it can be hard to read Chesh's comments, but he's only doing what most diligent buyers would do when looking to buy a "special" car like this.
Only the same really as checking up on a car's MOT history and reading between the lines.
It's hard to take criticism, especially online as there is no tone of voice etc to read, but taking it personally and snapping back will do yourself no favours.

All that said, it does look a lovely car and I wish you the best with the sale.
I couldn't have put it better myself! Thanks Steve.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your message and it's always interesting to see what various cars go for. Did you see the white 850R on ebay go for £7600!

Anyway back to the V90, I'm sorry to say I have seen eBay 960/V90s for little money and they haven't been good at all and usually are worn, dirty and have a stack of problems.

Mine has been admired so much for its condition that the local Volvo dealership have asked to use it for a press release photo in their showroom as part of the V90 relaunch as they said they have not seen one like this since they were new. Without wanting to sound rude but have the ones you have seen had parts flown in from Volvo America such as the brand new wooden steering wheel, gear lever, roller blind etc. This car has had a stack of new components fitted as you can see at the beginning of this thread which amount to thousands of pounds not hundreds, not because the car is worn but due to being an enthusiast and personal preference to keep the car remaining special.......so in short yes I would say it is worth top money. The stainless steel exhaust and cat alone as it was made from scratch for the car would cost a lot more than other cars I have seen for sale and the plus side of this is it will never need replacing again.

Hope that helps.

Always gives me a chuckle when people advertise on here under the (perfectly reasonable) assumption that they are appealing to enthusiasts who know and love these cars and will therefore be prepared to pay top dollar and not mess about or ask silly questions.

The reality is that the "enthusiasts" generally want to spend about £700 and already have a Volvo or two so don't need one anyway. Anytime a really top example comes along for sale the same litany of comments appear - "I would buy this but...your 73 miles away and its just too far, my missus would kill me, the interior is the wrong colour, I really want a saloon" etc etc etc. We can all admire these timewarp examples, but this is not the place to sell them and usually ends up in a slanging match for one reason or another.

My advice is fix the fault, ensure its sorted by driving for a few weeks, and then advertise on Autotrader/carandclassic/eBay with a good detailed advert and plenty of high res photos. Virtually all that I have had have gone to people looking a retro/starter classic who generally have fond memories of these cars from years ago and appreciate the relative value and quality of the very best examples in comparison to their counterparts from other manufacturers, not enthusiasts per say.

Default Ebay advert

Good luck with your sale.I see you had it up for £6000 on the classiccar site. Now on at £5000.I have seen asking prices rise steeply in the last six months.Very interested to see top bid if you do not sell before the auction ends as a lovely car.May put mine up for sale but I have had Volvo for last 20 odd years.
