Well I'm off to the North East tomorrow so thats 200 miles each way, so will give me a good test for the car.
To be honest I wasn't sure about it at first; it felt very wide, the ride is firmer than the old XC70 (maybe due to the lower profile tyres) and the stereo, even with £1000 upgrade the sound isn't as good as in the old. But after a week, I like the firmer ride, its more like my old MkII Mondeo Estate, down the back twisty lane it so much better and feel a lot smaller car. There is more room in the car, bigger door pockets & centre box. You can also set the car up to how I like it, set how long the lights stay on for, how the mirrors fold etc. The seating is as good as ever & the electric tail gate is great & the starter button makes me feel 8yrs old again. Don't think much of Volvo's SatNav, seems very old, no touch screen, no postcode search etc & still can't get use to not having a hand brake lever. Overall very good and it keeps growing on me. I'll see how good the MPG is on a long run tomorrow.

so what is going to be your guess on the fuel consumption?
I hope it's not worse than 35-37mpg I managed 49mpg in the mondeo estate with 4 people in the car on a long drive.. but that is staying away from hard acceleration.. |

Doing the same trip in my old V70 D5 (163bhp) Geartronic, I got 49.5mpg (according to the trip computer) doing around 70Mph on a late night empty motorway.
The same run in the New XC70 D5 (185bhp) Geartronic (according to the trip computer) its showed on the 385 mile trip a MPG of:- 35.5 MPG and that was travelling at around 70-75 Mph, but I got suck on the M62 1 mile in an hour. I hoped for high 30's

so how does it drive then??
from my experience with turbo diesel cars the fuel consumption is a bit higher in the first 2-3000miles.. |

Glad the cars growing on you.
I had one for a day long test drive, overall average mpg was .... 27 , that was mostly urban and the engine had only 1200 miles on it. Do think that the D5's economy is relatively poor compared to BMW/Audi engines. Really liked the car tho', high on the list of contenders for my new car in the new year. |

I think you need to compare the XC70 though to other cars of similar weight and aero profile having the higher ground clearance and bigger body work..
which BMW/Audi does it compare to.. an audi allroad won't be great on fuel either. |

hi
Hurrah, i just had my new car delivered this morning. Havent been able to play with all the toys, but first impressions are great. My only gripe is .. no foot rest for your left foot (mines a manual)! Also i thought he sat nav was pretty intuative, and as far as i can work out will take postcodes!
Looking forward to the weekend so i can go for a spin in the daylight!(active bixenons are good though) Cheers, Rob |

Yep, the Sat Nav can be used with just a PostCode, I did it the other (just can't remember how I did it), will play with it some more.
I seem to be getting about 30mpg on my day today run, I was getting low 30's from the old XC70 and Mid 30's from my even older 163bhp XC70. The ride is great, very smooth and nimble, but the car is bigger as I found out last night when leaving a car park, I didn't hit anything but almost did (twice). The pick up from the lights seem good but not pushing it to hard until Its done a good 1000 miles.

I guess my manual will be a bit better..
30mpg isn't bad for an auto on such a big car.. my wife gets 30mpg from her 1.6 focus ! you guys need to drive around more.. I haven't seen a single new shape V70 or XC70 since I ordered mine.. |

But I haven't seen another on the road yet, I got some great looks (mainly from 4x4 drivers) going upto the North East last weekend, it reminded me of when I had my MkII Mondeo Estate, I got it the week it came out, I parked it in a side street in town and when I got back there was 6 people looking around it.
