I genuinely would put an ls400 above any Mercedes, BMW or even rolls Royce for build quality, refinement and engineering. Mine was a 97 model with 67k miles, had never had an advisory at any mot and everything worked. Cost £37k in 1996 and Lexus are reputed to have lost money on every one sold such was there obsession with breaking into the market. Check out the advert with the champagne glasses

I was looking at the £4-5K Lexus GS450H models, so much car and such better value and build compared to beaten up BMW 5 series and Mercs... But, I didn't 'need' another car. Had I needed one, I'd have gone for something like a Lexus GS450H no doubt.
I paid a fair bit less than market value for this car and that was just luck, hence the purchase, to make family trips easier with a 4 door car. In light of the oil/inlet issue and some preventative maintenance, I ordered the seals from the local Merc dealer £22 vs £18 on ebay via phone. Get there to collect, and there is no parts desk. I am seated amongst people buying cars, other customers waiting in a nice seating area. Parts guys comes out 10 minutes later with my order but, one of the seals I specified is missing. It takes him another 20 minutes to come back out to me with my the missing part and a card machine for payment. He was nice enough, so no issues there but, had they had a good old fashioned parts desk, I could have shown him on his system the exact part I wanted, rather than have him wait for a tech to come and assist. The experience at the dealership was absolutely horrid. Its only good for the 'ideal; new Mercedes owner who is a waiting for a quick service or buying a car. Its useless for anything else. The crankcase ventilation valve is about £18 (viaco) but, I will order that online somewhere and look to under take the work myself in the next week or 2. Useful video on this issue for anyone who may consider/buy one :
