Rant away, have no fear . Its a fair point for the wealthy its just another payment but for all us normal folk it could mean alot more. The rich can afford most payments levied by the Government and probably claim the tax back too claiming that the vehicle is necessary for their work.

Does anyone think that they're trying to tax us off the roads leaving the roads clear for all the wealthy?

I caught part of the BBC program, it is bad that the foreign truck drivers think they can drive 26hours and that the trucks are falling to bits.

The easy thing would be for the UK to do the same as Germany, when a truck or Bus enters, it must stop at the border crossing and get a card which records the mileage and vehicle details, when they leave Germany they hand this back in at the crossing point and they pay a road tax for the number of miles they have driven.

This would be easy for the VOC to enforce as there is only a limited number of ports of entry, and at the same time they can check the drivers tacographs and truck for safety.

I should be in politics, how hard was the to think of..

However, one possible way to reduce this, and to shunt the responsibility off the government would be to force eurostar and ferry companies to ensure that any vehicle that it carries meets with the vehicle conditions of the destination country.
Failure to meet the conditions results in loss of fare.
Police finding/catching a vehicle results in the vehicle being returned to port for immediate return and the carrier being given heafty fine..
Gawd, I'll make a politician yet!!!

Des. . .
Hey, thas a well logical idea, you'd never make a politician based on that kind of thinking.

Very true, politicians and logical thinking - not something that go hand in hand too often.

Default Right you gas guzzlers !!!!

If I own a Gas guzzler the value will fall. I can now either sell it or keep it.
If I buy another car HMG will rub its hands together as it gets more VAT.
My low value gas guzzler will now be bought at a knock down price and exported almost immediately to some Eastern EEC country where the new owner will drive around in a big comfortable safe car while we in the UK are driving around in something akin to a suped up pram which will fall apart under the first impact.
If you dont believe whats happening look at all the P an R plate big BMWs being driven on UK plates by the Polish who are over here. It doesn't stop pollution it shifts it elsewhere

Well said that man!

I shall be keeping mine thank you very much (and taking into account these various 'initiatives' when I exercise my right to vote)
